SeRP launches its new brand and website to support its global ambition.

The Secure eResearch Platform (SeRP) has developed a new website and brand identity to support its growth and development in establishing itself as a world-leading data solutions infrastructure provider.

The new website will be used as a shop-front to inform the world about SeRP; showcasing the society-enhancing projects and partners that work with SeRP, and detailing the specific technological solutions that make up SeRP’s bespoke offerings.

SeRP has been providing organisations with a sound technological footing for the last decade. In that time SeRP has been adopted by data-focused research bodies, who recognise the benefits that SeRP brings to data sharing, governance, anonymisation, linkage and analysis.

These projects and organisations include; SAIL Databank, Administrative Data Research (ADR) UK, Health Data Research (HDR) UK, Dementias Platform (DPUK) amongst others, as well as overseas projects in Australia and Canada.

With its technical dexterity and ability to offer a controlled, governed environment, accredited to the highest international standard, SeRP has now evolved to become a distinct marketable product.

The next chapter in the story of SeRP will see greater expansion of its ‘Implementations’ both domestically and internationally. SeRP has its sights set on the global data landscape as a means to deliver positive impact to societies around the world using its governed data environment.

These new resources will also help to define and endorse SeRP’s suite of data solutions, promoting a wide variety of customisable options to suit different projects. This includes the ability to handle very large and complex data types like genetics and imaging data.

Programme Manager of SeRP, Mr Richard Hier, said, “We’re very excited about the future of SeRP. We now have all the tools we need to meet the challenges of global competition in the data solutions marketplace. Together with this new bold brand we’re confident that SeRP has the capabilities to excel and become a dominant force for data sharing, linkage, anonymisation and analysis”.

In the latest development SeRP technology will a play key role in an international collaboration to accelerate COVID-19 research.

The International COVID-19 Data Research Alliance and Workbench will provide an environment for focused collaborative research, matching high value data from many sources with cutting edge analysis to accelerate collaboration, discovery and development of therapeutics to combat COVID-19, all with privacy, data security and accessibility at the forefront.

The Workbench technology, delivered by Scottish firm, Aridhia, and supported by SeRP, will provide a set of tools that allows scientists to discover, access and analyse global multi-dimensional datasets whilst respecting confidentiality and privacy to develop an efficient approach to working across boundaries, essential to achieving a rapid response to COVID-19 and future epidemics.

The innovative SeRP technical platform brings a novel ‘Adapter’ capability to The Workbench; lowering the technical bar for further data partners to join the Alliance.

The SeRP Adapter is a product which is formed of several technical components such as APIs, databases, and containerisation software, to enable federated analysis of data, where the analysis is sent to the data storage location and the result sent back to the user. This method of analysis enables data governance to be maintained in situations where physical data transfer is not permitted or possible, by allowing users to deploy analyses from a central user interface to data held in multiple physical locations.

SeRP protects against the reputational risk of data compromises by managing data in an accredited and highly regulated environment.

SeRP is independently audited and accredited to the highest standards. ISO 27001 is an internationally recognised best-practice standard for an information Security Management System (ISMS).

A UK Statistics Authority accreditation also means that SeRP is an ‘Accredited Processor’ under the terms of the Digital Economy Act 2017.

SeRP is entrusted by world-leading organisations and institutions as a comprehensive data platform. These accreditations, and dedicated legal and compliance expertise, demonstrate SeRP’s commitment to a robust governance policy and to the continuous improvement of its systems and associated controls.

“We have partnered with (SeRP) because their experience in health data security is the best in the world. Monash University is committed to guaranteeing data security.”

- Professor Ian Smith, Vice-Provost (Research and Research Infrastructure), Monash University, Australia
